Michael Axelsson
Michael Axelsson comes from Värmdö and studied at the University College of Opera and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
Since his debut as Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro at Drottningholm Palace Theatre in 2006, Michael has appeared in a number of roles, such as Tamino in The Magic Flute, Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Koloman Zsupan in Gräfin Mariza at Landesbühnen Sachsen in Dresden, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Remendado in Carmen at Smålandsoperan, Tamino also at Norrlandsoperan and Opera på Skäret and Basilio/Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro at Confidencen.
He has participated in several world premieres, for example as Narcissus in Boris Christ at Piteå Chamber Opera and as the Actor Jof in The Seventh Seal at the International Brazilian Opera Company.
Michael has an extensive concert repertoire – oratorios as well as Lied. He regularly appears as the Evangelist in Bach's Passions and has performed the St. Matthew Passion in the Martin-Luther-Kirche in Dresden, the Grote Kerk in Harderwijk and Uppenbarelsekyrkan in Stockholm, the St. John Passion in St. Jacob's Church, Oscarskyrkan and Högalidskyrkan in Stockholm, the Christmas Oratorio in Visby Cathedral and Lund Cathedral, the Mozart Requiem in the Stockholm Concert Hall and Linköping Cathedral and Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle in the Stockholm Cathedral.
He has previously been a member of Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir and sung in ensembles such as the Swedish Radio Choir, Vokalharmonin, vocal ensembles of the Stockholm Cathedral and at the Royal Chapel, as well as the male quartet Nya Prinskvartetten, performing at the Royal Chapel and the Royal Palace at official occasions.
Since 2020, Michael has been employed at Operan in the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus and has sung Flute in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten), Samuel in Löftet and Giuseppe in La traviata.
