Angela Rotondo
Swedish-Sicilian soprano with training in the soloist class at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and studies in Italy for e.g. Sesto Bruscantini. Angela received the Hjördis Schymberg scholarship in 2019. Previous employments include the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, Sicily. Since 2006 permanent employee at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.
Angela debuted in roles such as Mimì (La bohème), Violetta (La traviata) and Abigaille (Nabucco) and has worked with conductors such as Pier-Giorgio Morandi, Nicola Luisotti and Daniele Callegari. Engagements abroad include the roles of Donna Anna in the Frankfurt Oper, Fidelia in Puccini's opera Edgar at the summer festival in Rossauerkaserme in Vienna.
At the Folkoperan in Stockholm, Angela has sung the main roles in the operas Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Un ballo in Maschera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Così fan tutte, as well as the role of Freja and Woglinde in Das Reheingold and Beatrice in Sven-David Sandström's opera Jeppe.
Other roles Angela has been engaged in and performed are Imogene (Il Pirata), Elvira (Ernani), Wally (La Wally) Gioconda(La Gioconda) Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) along with e.g. Peter Mattei under the musical direction of Daniel Harding
At the Royal Swedish Opera, Angela has sung everything from minor roles such as Norna in Götterdämmerung, Sacerdotessa in Aida to the main roles Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera), Maddalena di Coigny (Andrea Chenier) and Tosca in Knut Hendriksen's production.
Next season 2025, she sings the role of Helmwige in R. Wagner's opera Die Walküre.
