»WE AND THE AUDIENCE HAVE BEEN HEARD«
FREDRIK LINDGREN, CEO
Good news that the orchestra will remain in the Opera House: »It is positive that the government listens to the Opera's demand that the entire artistic activity must be together and that the orchestra must also be able to remain in the Opera House. A very gratifying message that shows that the politicians take the issue of the Opera House's future seriously and that they have listened to us and the audience, says Fredrik Lindgren, CEO of the Royal Swedish Opera.
The renovation of the Opera House is expected to begin in 2026.
»We still want to see a larger addition to the Opera House with a new, open entrance towards Kungsträdgården, a larger second stage and new functional rehearsal romms for the ballet. We are also ready to, in addition to government funding, seek alternative funding together with private individuals, companies and foundations,« says Fredrik Lindgren.
During the renovationof the Opera House, we are planning for the Royal Swedish Opera's operations to take place in other premises. What premises it will be is not yet clear and Fredrik Lindgren is calling for a greater commitment from SFV (National Property Board) in the matter.
»Now a clear plan is urgently needed for how the business will be conducted during the renovation period. Here, SFV as landlord needs to take responsibility. SFV has announced that the Opera House will have to be closed for five years for renovation from the second half of 2026 - then SFV will also have to present a plan for how rents and premises will be resolved,« says Fredrik Lindgren.
