NIGHT'S DREAM
»The Royal Swedish Ballet in a memorable
Midsummer feast« SVENSKA DAGBLADET
Artificial hay is used on stage.
A universal theme, the same longing for light summer nights, a dream of the origin of everything, a night of love and lust. The boundary between reality and the supernatural is unclear. Traditions are distorted, the world changes, and all of a sudden we become uncertain – is it all a dream?
The celebrated Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman created the acclaimed performance Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Royal Swedish Ballet. Like Tyll, Escapist, and most recently Cacti (part of Ekman/Hjálmarsdóttir/Naharin), it was an immediate success at the Royal Swedish Opera. The music is by New York-based Mikael Karlsson, who apart from several collaborations with Ekman has written the opera Melancholia, with world premiere at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2023.
