World premiere by the young rising star

»Rising star Emma Portner thinks outside the box«
»delicately sensitive duets, squeaky and splashing sounds, funny foam hat parades and horror movie absurd moods«
»A soft, sharp, musically pulsating flow, structured with the precision of clockwork«

»The most powerful solo is delivered by Zane Smith-Taylor... Extraordinarily skilful and poignant.«
Twenty-five bathtubs are placed on stage. Seven dancers move around, inside and with the bathtubs. The air becomes foggy and the floor is covered in foam. These are the ingredients the young choreographer Emma Portner uses when she and the dancers playfully perform the enigmatic, evocative Bathtub ballet. Totality in Parts, with choreography by Lukaš Timulak, was created specifically for the Royal Swedish Ballet. It opens with one dancer. The number of dancers is doubled until 16 dancers have appeared on stage to explore what connects us humans, our planet and the universe.
»I liked the idea of calling something a ballet,
which we may not traditionally perceive as ballet«
Emma Portner
The Canadian choreographer Emma Portner is one of the most talked-about names associated with dance in recent years. She was the youngest choreographer to ever have choreographed a London West End musical and her dance works have been performed all over the world, she has even choreographed performers such as Emma Watson, Maggie Rogers and Justin Bieber. Bathtub ballet and Totality in Parts are both based on a strong relationship between stage design and choreography. Totality in Parts was first performed to great acclaim as part of Trinity in 2018. It was created by Timulak in collaboration with set designer Peter Bil’ak with music by Academy Award-winning composer Volker Bertelmann («Hauschka») «Well performed and visually powerful» wrote Svenska Dagbladet.
