Court singer Kerstin Meyer (1928–2020) was one of the most beloved mezzo-sopranos in the Swedish opera world. Now she is given tribute in a memorial concert in the Golden Foyer featuring 34 singers and 6 pianists. Kerstin Meyer belonged to the elite of Swedish singers of the 20th century with a great international career on the very biggest stages in the world, from The Metropolitan to La Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Covent Garden, Bayreuther Festspiele and Glyndebourne Festival. After finishing her career, she was rector at the University College of Opera in Stockholm between 1984 and 1994. There she shaped several prominent generations of singers.

Kerstin Meyer studied singing with Arne Sunnegårdh and Andrejeva von Skilondz in Stockholm, Giorgio Favaretto in Rome, Paola Novikova in New York and Vera Rosza in London. Debut in 1952 as Azucena in Il trovatore. She was employed at the Royal Swedish Opera 1952–1962 and 1969–1981. Read more here »
