Born in 1967 in Germany, Fredrik Söhngen came to Stockholm in 1986 after studying in Hamburg. In 1989 he took up his first position in the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra and Omnibus Chamber Wind Orchestra. From 1995 to 1997 he played alternating solo oboe in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra before starting his employment as principal voice in the Royal Swedish Orchestra in 1997.
Fredrik Söhngen has been a substitute principal voice in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Swedish Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his work at the Royal Swedish Opera, Fredrik Söhngen devotes as much time as possible to chamber music and has appeared at a number of festivals and has also participated in the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra with, among others, Terje Tönnesen and Leif-Ove Andsnes. Fredrik Söhngen has also appeared as a soloist on several occasions. He plays an oboe made by Ludwig Frank, Berlin.
Fredrik Söhngen represents the trade union SYMF, for the orchestra section, on the Royal Swedish Opera's board.
