One of the Opera’s most important missions is to put on performances for children and young people, and to make it possible for them to pursue culture. During the last twenty years Young Opera has been and continue to be the state-of-the-art for opera and ballet in Sweden.
Every season Young Opera create opera and dance performances for children and young people.
In addition to performances, Young Opera also opens the doors of the Opera House to Childrens’ Saturdays, school holiday activities and family days. The activities we offer vary from guided tours of the Opera House and trying on costumes to mini performances and concerts.
Young Opera also engages in active school outreach, and the educational programme offers both short and long-term projects, one of which is part of the Skapande skola (Creative School) programme. Young Opera also arranges field trips to the Opera House and teachers’ evenings, and schedule weekend and holiday activities, host family days and special performances for school groups.

There’s something extra special about creating opera for first-time visitors to the opera, especially young first-time visitors. During spring 2025, we will be performing Handel’s Julius Caesar, a drama about friendship, love and the occasionally thin veil between play and reality among 10-12-year-olds. Handel’s music rocks timelessly. In the hands of acclaimed director Clara Svärd, and with star soprano Sofi Asplund in one of the main roles, it’s an extra special first-time experience.
Young Opera aims to make our opera house, with our art forms opera and ballet, more accessible for all. We are proud to during spring offer children between ages 4 and 10 the opportunity to visit us and try opera, ballet or listen to a classical concert. A tour of the opera house may be the best option for our youngest visitors.
