During her career, Brimberg has portrayed a wide range of roles such as Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Aida, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, the title roles in Jenůfa, Katja Kabanova, Salome, Elektra, Elsa in Lohengrin and Brünnhilde in Der Ring des Nibelungen. She has performed Elektra in a spectacular production of La Fura dels Baus/Norrlandsoperan (on DVD) and at the Royal Swedish Opera.
In recent seasons, Brimberg has returned to La Monnaie in Brussels as Brünnhilde in Der Ring des Nibelungen. At Oper Leipzig she has for the first time performed the title role in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Leonore in Fidelio at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Senta Der fliegende Holländer at Oper Köln and a concert with Vier letzte Lieder in Lille. During the 2020/21 season, she returned to the Göteborg Opera as Brünnhilde, where she previously portrayed Katja Kabanova, Tosca and Elettra in Idomeneo.
Brimberg began the 2019/20 season with her role debut as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde in a new production for Oper Köln, Eva in Fagerlund's Autumn Sonata at the Helsinki Opera, and returned to the role of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre (Teatro Real, Madrid and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra). Ingela Brimberg's first Senta was concert performances in France, Austria and Spain (Marc Minkowski). She has since then sung the role at the Theater an der Wien, Oper Köln, Staatsoper Hamburg, Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Brimberg has collaborated with conductors such as Marc Minkowski, Donald Runnicles, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding, Francois-Xavier Roth, Leif Segerstam, Sakari Oramo, Pablo Heras-Casado, Alain Altinoglu and Alan Gilbert to name a few.
In 2012, Ingela Brimberg was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize for her interpretation of Tosca at the Göteborg Opera.
