Ewa Strusińska is a Polish conductor who became internationally famous when she won the prestigious Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition. Now she works in Germany as music director at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater Görlitz-Zitta and as chief conductor of the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie, where she already presented new ideas in her concert programs during her first season.
She has conducted new productions of Dinorah, Tosca, Don Juan, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and Don Pasquale. Her concert repertoire ranges from Joseph Haydn to Eric Tanguy with Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss and Mieczysław Weinberg in between.
Between 2008 and 2010, Ewa Strusińska was assistant conductor of the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester - the first ever female conductor of a British orchestra.
When she was music director and chief conductor of the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra in the years 2013-2016, she left a lasting mark on the city's musical life and led the orchestra to previously unknown brilliance.
Ewa Strusińska has guest conducted at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen as well as with the Bergische Symphoniker and Philharmonisches Orchester Vorpommern. She is also in demand in international competitions: in June 2019 she conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at the BBC Cardiff Singers of the World Competition and in September 2019 she led the jury at the prestigious Aeolus Wind Competition at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
She has a great commitment to conveying music to young people and preparing musicians for the future. She teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and works regularly with the Landesjugendorchester Berlin and the South African National Youth Orchestra. She has also initiated several cross-border projects with young people in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
