Mikael Carlsson was born in Stockholm in 1965. As a five-year-old, he started playing the cornet for his father and then played the trombone at the Municipal Music School.

Mikael has studied at KMI with Carl-Otto Naessén (former court cellist), at Södra Latin with Sven Larsson and then at the Royal Academy of Music with Sven-Erik Eriksson (former court cellist).

In 1988 he got the job of conductor in Stockholm's Blåsarsymfoniker. Mikael played at the same time at Chinateatern for five years and took part in a. Cats, West Side Story and Annie get your gun.

In 1993, Mikael got the job as bass trombonist in the Royal Swedish Orchestra, where he also plays tenor trombone, euphonium, double bass trombone and cimbasso.

Mikael has had several solo pieces written for him. There are solo pieces for both brass band, brass band and symphony orchestra accompaniment.

Mikael appears a couple of times a year as a soloist and has played in the USA, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, France, Norway, Denmark and Australia.

In addition, he has been a soloist on various CD recordings, most recently with Stockholm Brassband.

Mikael was previously Artist in Residence for the brass instrument manufacturer York (Germany) on the euphonium, but as of 2013 is Artist for Sterling (England).
