In addition to music, Philippe Béran has studied physics at the University of Geneva and at the beginning of his career he was a high school teacher of mathematics, physics and music.
Béran earned his conducting degree at the Geneva Conservatoire where he also studied clarinet and piano. Béran's specialty is not least conducting ballet, concerts and projects aimed at children and young people, such as silent film concerts.
Béran has performed as a guest conductor at e.g. Munich Radio Orchestra, Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, New York City Ballet Orchestra, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Nancy Symphony Orchestra.
He has conducted operas at opera houses in i.a. Bordeaux, Palermo, Geneva, Nice and Helsinki.
At the Royal Swedish Opera, Béran has conducted Coppélia, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker since 2012.
