Staffan Mårtensson is a versatile musician who since 2001 has been a solo clarinetist in the Royal Swedish Orchestra at the Royal Swedish Opera. He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, for example with the Wiener Konzertverein, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Lausanne, Bratislava Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchester de la Garde Républicaine de Paris, Het Brabants Orkest Eindhoven, Orchester de Basse-Normandie, Czech Chamber Philharmonic, Kristiansand's Chamber Orchestra, Royal Court Chapel, Stockholm's New Chamber Orchestra (SNYKO), as well as a dozen other Swedish orchestras. With the Hovkapellet he was a soloist in autumn 2005 in a ballet version of Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto in the performance Dreamland with choreography by Matjash Mrozewski.
His repertoire ranges from the classics to contemporary music, klezmer and jazz. He has released a dozen CDs, including Stockholm Chamber Jazz and Clarinetto con forza, for which he won a Grammy as Classical Artist of the Year in 2006. He is the artistic director of Östergötland's Musikdagar and for many years led the Summer Night Concerts at the National Museum.
As a conductor, trained at KMH in Stockholm, he is actively involved around the country. In 2023, in addition to the Hovkapellet, he leads in Where is the sandwich? among others Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the Army Music Corps and Östgöta Wind Symphony Orchestra. He founded the freelance orchestra SoFo Chamber Orchestra in 2017 and leads the St Tomas Symphony Orchestra in Vällingby since 2015.
In 2014, Staffan received the royal medal Litteris et Artibus for his artistic contributions to Swedish music life.
