Sir Wayne McGregor CBE is a multi-award-winning British choreographer and director, internationally renowned for trailblazing innovations in performance which have radically redefined dance in the modern era. McGregor has directed and choreographed over 160 works, including over 40 works for Company Wayne McGregor, which he founded in 1993, and more than 20 works for The Royal Ballet where he has been Resident Choreographer since 2006. His work is in the repertoires of the most important dance companies in the world including Paris Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, La Scala Ballet, and American Ballet Theater. He is in demand as a choreographer for theatre, film, music, fashion, TV, and as a director for Opera.
McGregor's work has earned him a multitude of awards including four Critics' Circle National Dance Awards, two Time Out Awards, three South Bank Show Awards, two Olivier Awards, and two Golden Mask Awards. In 2022, McGregor was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the British Science Association; he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Prix de Lausanne in 2021; and he received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art in 2023. He is Professor of Choreography at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, President of Elmhurst Ballet School, and is Vice-President of The Roundhouse. Since 2021 McGregor has been Director of Dance for the prestigious Venice Biennale, and in 2022 he choreographed the revolutionary ABBA Voyage. In 2011 he was awarded a CBE for Services to Dance and in 2024, His Majesty The King appointed Wayne McGregor a Knighthood in the 2024 Birthday Honours List.
