DANCE-ALONG,
your chance to tread the boards of the Opera's main stage!

 

On November 15 and 18, we invite you to Dance-along; dance classes on the Royal Swedish Opera's main stage with some of the dance world's leading characters. Try the basics of classical ballet, throw yourself into modern dance, try out the unique Gaga style, swing around in couples dancing or show off like in Vegas. No prior knowledge is required, the dance classes are for everyone!

There are three dance classes per evening, each class is about an hour long and you buy a ticket for each individual class separately, but you are of course welcome to attend several classes if you want. Afterwards, you can take a breather with a drink in the Golden Foyer where the bar is open for mingling!


friday November 15


At 5.30 p.m.Gaga/People with Emma Rozgoni

The unique dance style Gaga, created by choreographer Ohad Naharin, last seen at the Royal Swedish Opera with the audience favorite piece Minus 16. Described as a language of movement including all senses, where participants are encouraged to use their imagination and experience the joy of movement.

At 7 p.m.Modern dance with Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir

Let go of your thoughts of perfection and come to a class in modern dance led by Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir, former dancer in the Royal Swedish Ballet, Gothenburg Dance Company and Cullberg Ballet, now repetiteur and choreographer. Her piece Riptide was described as an unstoppable force of nature: welcome to throw yourself out on the floor!

At 8.30 p.m. Jazz with Anthony Lomuljo

In a personal, jazzy and stylish dance class, you’ll get to come along with Anthony Lomuljo, a dancer in the Royal Swedish Ballet since 2012, to a world of mixed influences. All done with attitude and groove – take the chance to express yourself, more is more!


monday November 18


At 5.30 p.m. – Ballet with Nicolas Le Riche

Who should teach you the basics of classical ballet from if not from the Royal Swedish Opera's own ballet director Nicolas Le Riche! This will be a class with traditional exercises at the bar and on the floor. With his previous career as an étoile at the Paris Opera and six years as ballet director at the Opera, Nicolas is sure to come with many special tips and tricks from the world of ballet. The dance class is held in English.

At 7 p.m. – Jive with Tobias Wallin & Katariina Edling

Have you always dreamed of throwing someone around in a jive? Now's your chance! Tobias Wallin has danced 14 seasons in Let's dance and together with Katariina Edling he will now teach you the basics of jive. To be guaranteed to dance in a pair, come together with someone you want to dance with, gender identity does not matter. You are of course welcome solo as well, we will pair up to the best of our ability on site!

At 8.30 p.m. – Soultrain with Rennie Mirro

Dancer, singer and actor Rennie Mirro begun his career with the Royal Swedish Ballet and has since done everything from classical musicals to solo shows. Now he is back on the stage of the Opera and offers a swinging dance class with influences from both the classic TV show Soultrain and the phenomenon of flashmobs.


PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • There is an unmanned cloakroom on site at the Opera where you can leave outerwear. No bags or outerwear are allowed into the auditorium or up on stage during the dance classes. Smaller valuables (mobile phone, wallet) can be brought in and be placed in a designated area.
  • The possibility to change into your dance clothes on site is very limited, be as prepared as you can when you arrive!
  • Admission to the cloakroom opens half an hour before each dance class begins.
  • The Golden Foyer with bar is open 6.30 till 10 p.m.
  • Age limit to the dance classes is 15 years.

CLOTHING AND SHOES

Comfortable attire is recommended. You are not allowed to wear shoes you have worn outdoors when being on the stage, we recommend the following:

  • BALLET – soft ballet shoes or socks
  • MODERN DANCE – socks or barefoot
  • JAZZ – socks, barefoot or light sneakers
  • GAGA – socks or barefoot
  • JIVE – sneakers
  • SHOW – sneakers
