A sustainable and efficient solution for the Opera for many years to come
The future of the Opera House - join us on a historic journey
The Royal Swedish Opera has been in constant change since 1773 and the Opera House is a unique national concern that is of great importance to society by safeguarding democracy, freedom of expression and cultural development. With a planned start of re-construction in 2026, we will renovate and expand our current opera house, which was inaugurated in September 1898. We are doing the project in collaboration with the Statens Fastighetsverk (the National Property Board). The purpose of the major renovation is to increase public accessibility to art and gently lift a 120-year-old building into the 21st century standard both in terms of working environment and accessibility.
Take part in a historic journey and get involved in the creation of the new Opera House, where sustainability becomes an important part in both developing and preserving the opera building and its obvious location in the cityscape.
