Couschi was taken from his family in the West Indies and came as a gift to the Swedish queen in the 18th century. He grew up at court as the queen's foster son, was given no less than five royal names but was called Badin. When he died in 1822, he was a free man and a respected member of society in Stockholm. Now his life becomes a ballet at the Royal Swedish Opera. How can dance and performing arts make us discover history and ourselves? Who are the Badins of our time and can they change society?
