Mikael Onelius received his education at the Birmingham Conservatoire, the Royal College of Music and the College of Opera in Stockholm.
Mikael has been employed at the Royal Swedish Opera since 2018 and before that he sang at the Göteborg Opera, Garsington Opera, Buxton Opera Festival and others.
At the Royal Swedish Opera, Mikael has sung the 2nd Jewish Scribe (Salome), Inquisitor and Charles Edward (Candide), the Official Registrar (Madama Butterfly) and Benoît (La bohème). Previous roles include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte/Hälsinge Opera), Malcolm (Macbeth/Gothenburg Opera), Claudio (Das Liebesverbot/Kamraterna), Apollo (Semele/Garsington Opera), Lensky (Eugene Onegin/Opera Academy).
Mikael was the 2015 winner of the Göteborg Wagner Society's Bayreuth Scholarship.
In 2026, Mikael will sing Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, in a new production by Sofia Adrian Jupither.
