In 2024, Nina Stemme sings Kostelnička in Jenůfa at the Royal Swedish Opera. She is one of the world's most sought-after sopranos and she regularly visits the largest opera houses in leading roles.
During 2023-24, she has sung roles such as Strauss Elektra at the Royal Opera House, Kundry in Parsifal at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Ortrud in Lohengrin at Opéra National de Paris and Wiener Staatsoper. In 2025, she will among other things, sing Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in Berwaldhallen.
In recent years, Nina has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, the Royal Opera House in London and the opera houses in Stockholm, Zurich, Munich, Barcelona, Houston and San Francisco with roles such as Isolde (Tristan und Isolde), Brünnhilde (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), Turandot, Minnie (La Fanciulla del West), Tosca, Ariadne, Salome, Die Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) and Leonore (Fidelio).
In 2013, she received the Opera Award’s first award for the world’s best opera singer. Nina was named royal court singer in Sweden 2006, Austrian Kammersängerin in 2012 and has repeatedly been named “Sänger des Jahres” in the German magazine Opernwelt. Furthermore: Kammersängerin in Munich 2022, and Ehrenmitglied at Wiener Staatsoper 2023. With her debut as Ortrud in 2023 she has sung 16 major roles, such as Brünnhilde, Isolde, Minnie, Tosca, Elektra, Färberin and Leonore, in over 140 performances at Wiener Staatsoper.
Her Isolde in Christoph Loy's production of Tristan und Isolde at the Royal Opera House in London resulted in the 2010 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance. Nina has also been awarded the medal “Litteris et Artibus” by King Carl XVI Gustaf and the Premio Abbiati award in Italy. In 2018, she received the Birgit Nilsson Prize, the world’s largest prize in classical music, in connection with a Prize Award Ceremony at the Royal Swedish Opera.
Since her debut as Cherubino in 1989, Nina’s roles have also included Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Mimì (La Bohème), Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly), Manon Lescaut, Tatjana (Jevgenij Onegin), Katerina (Greek Passion), Suor Angelica, Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Katerina (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), La Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Marguerite (Faust), Agathe (Der Freischütz), Marie (Wozzeck), Nyssia (König Kandaules), Jenůfa, Arabella, Eva (Meistersinger), Elsa (Lohengrin), Senta (Der fliegende Holländer), Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Leonora (La forza del Destino) and Aida. Nina has performed on countless opera stages and at the festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Savonlinna, Glyndebourne, Bregenz and the Proms in London to name a few.
