CARMEN
To love is to love freely
»The best Carmen since the 1970s.«
»A Carmen worth waiting for. The orchestral playing is wonderfully buoyant.«
»A Carmen who lives in Sweden here and now.«
Georges Bizet’s Carmen from 1875 is one of the world’s best-loved operas. In Johanna Garpe’s acclaimed version, Carmen is a mature, creative, rebellious and sexually liberated woman. Miriam Treichl again appears in the leading role. Daniel Johansson and Joachim Bäckström alternate as Don José.
Carmen wants to combine life-affirming passion with independence. She believes she can love anyone she wants. One day her eyes fall on the factory supervisor José. Their passionate encounter is the beginning of a violent story of love, jealousy and death.
